History

Sepaktakraw, rooted in Southeast Asian tradition, was introduced to Sri Lanka in the early 1990s and soon captured the interest of local sports communities. The Amateur Sepaktakraw Association of Sri Lanka (ASASL) was established in 1990, laying the foundation for organized development. A landmark moment came in 2015, when Sepaktakraw was officially recognized as Sri Lanka’s 50th National Sport. In 2023, the organization evolved into the Sri Lanka Sepaktakraw Federation (SLSTF), reflecting its modern, professional vision. Today, SLSTF operates under the Ministry of Sports and proudly represents Sri Lanka in global arenas through ISTAF, ASTAF, and SASTAF affiliations, showcasing national talent at prestigious tournaments like the King’s Cup, Asian Games, and South Asian Championships.
